As a child, PHLOX (Grace Engel) imagined her future as an author living in NYC. In her early twenties, she pursued this by writing the manuscripts to four unpublished novels. Two characters, Elliot and PHLOX, worked their way into the storyline of various books and stories and she felt a particular connection with the latter. When she began to branch out of the realm of words and focus on visual arts, she adopted the name to represent her creative life.

PHLOX is visual and textile artist born and raised in the midwest. Her work focuses on the body from a female perspective. She draws inspiration from her peers, her work in the mental health field, and her life experience of sensitivity and vulnerability. She is currently based in Asheville, NC.
